An opinion of one of our youth in regards the the
Constitution of the Coptic Orthodox Church Property Trust NSW - 1993 - Amended in 2003.
I am deeply distressed by the state of affairs we find ourselves in. I have always seen our persecuted church as one that has survived two millennia through unity and prayer, but who would have thought that the persecution that would affect us the most is the one that is self-inflicted. I feel like so many issues are breaking our beautiful Body of Christ apart into different pieces.Forgive my ignorance, but I am not sure how appropriate it is for our Bishop to be the "sole trustee" for our whole diocese - its assets and all. When did it become right for a Bishop to own millions of dollars of assets under his single control? That type of power is dangerous for any one individual, and noone is impervious to making mistakes. The Holy Bible teaches us that "in the multitude of counsellors there is safery" (Prov. 11:14), and I am of course inclined to agree. His Grace should be the sole trustee of our spiritual well-being as a whole, not the materialistic realm. I understand that the Church has a side to it that needs to deal with financial responsibilities, but this would be better left to a committee that at least has some experience or qualification in such matters? His Grace is responsible for being our shepherd that leads his flock to heaven, a huge responsibility on its own. It is not his responsibility, however, to put all his efforts in making individual decisions on his own for the worldly wealth of our church. Our spiritual leader should give the example of leaving the wealth of this world to dedicate his life to Christ, but this 'sole trustee' business doesn't seem like that example at all. I find it difficult to learn from a role model like that.I pray that His Grace can take my words with all love, as I am a sinful individual who has a dream for our church to be the strongest it can be. I truly think that a good start to that would be for His Grace to listen to the concerns of his children that only want to see goodness and spiritual prosperity. My biological parents have passed from this world, but I rely on my spiritual father and my mother the church to continue to guide me (and all of us) in the narrow path that our Good Lord set out for us. God bless everyone and His Grace Bishop Daniel of Sydney.
